TV PROGRAM ON NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES RUNS ON KPAS AND INTERNET

A new program on KPAS, the city of Pasadena channel, informs residents and businesses about Pasadena First: Buy Local, which encourages businesses to consider the city as a potential customer.

KPAS is on cable channel 3 in Pasadena ; all programming is also available via streaming video in real time at www.cityofpasadena.net/publicaffairs.

Pasadena Director of Finance Andrew Green, Purchasing Administrator Larry Hammond and Project Manager Antonio Watson are joined by moderator Ann Erdman and with two local vendors who are participating in Pasadena First: Buy Local.

Green, Hammond and Watson discuss the purpose of the Pasadena First initiative and how local businesses can participate.  Paul Suggs, owner of Cobra Electric, and Isaiah Adidjaja, account representative for Anderson Business Technology, discuss how they have benefited from learning about the competitive bidding process and the additional points they received on specific bids for being local businesses.

Cobra Electric is working on some undergrounding of utility wires; Anderson Business Technology is providing photocopiers and other equipment along with supplies and service.  Both businesses are based in Pasadena .

The KPAS program is shown Mondays at 8 a.m., Tuesdays at 7 p.m., Wednesdays at 8 a.m., Thursdays at 5 p.m., Fridays at noon, Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 11 a.m.

An open house and workshop Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon in basement room S018 at Pasadena City Hall , 100 N. Garfield Ave. , will give local businesses an opportunity to meet one-on-one with purchasing agents for various city departments.  There will be a workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. on the processes required to provide services and products to the city.

On Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. technical assistance workshops related to finance, insurance, business development support services and youth entrepreneurship will help educate vendors about doing business with city departments, the Rose Bowl Stadium, Pasadena Unified School District, the county of Los Angeles and the state of California.  These workshops will be at East West Bank , 135 N. Los Robles Ave.

Other components of Pasadena First: Buy Local include First Source Local Hiring, a referral list of residents who potentially could be hired for private and/or public construction projects within the Pasadena city limits.
