Pasadena City College Art Gallery to Exhibit Works from Ed Fella

The works of Ed Fella, an internationally acclaimed graphic designer and typographer, will be on display at the Pasadena City College Art Gallery from Oct. 8 to Nov. 20. The “Im History” exhibit will feature original drawings, photos, sketchbooks, and printed posters by the artist, including recent work from his “Counterfactual History” project that has yet to be published or exhibited. There will be a reception forthe artist on Oct., 8 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Fella, a recipient of the AIGA medal and the Chrysler Design Award, has described himself as an “exit-level designer.” He undertakes a wide-range of idiosyncratic projects that resist categorization. The exhibition on campus will focus on Fella’s multi-faceted relationship with history.
"The title, 'Im History,' suggests Fella’s dual status as an established figure in the history of design and as a senior practitioner who is now making way for subsequent generations," said Brian Tucker, director of the PCC Art Gallery and the exhibit’s curator. "This extends to Fella’s exploration of an alternative version of his own history, his 'Counterfactual History' project, in which Fella imagines theabstract paintings he might have created had he enrolled in art school in 1957, instead of finding employment in the advertising business."
The gallery is open Monday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. Visitor parking is available on campus for $2.
