BLAIR IB SCHOOL SENIOR NAMED COLLEGE BOARD’S NATIONAL HISPANIC RECOGNITION PROGRAM SCHOLAR

Pasadena, CA The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) announced that the College Board has named Emmanuel Hermosillo, a senior at Blair International Baccalaureate School a 2010-2011National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar for excellence in academic achievement.
Emmanuel is recognized for high achievement on the PSAT and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.  He is among 5,000 students selected from a pool of over 200,000 students who took the 2009 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA and identified themselves as Hispanic/Latino.  Emmanuel, known on campus as Manny, wishes to attend either Stanford or Harvard to major in either pre-medicine or biochemistry.

Although the NHRP does not provide a financial reward, being named is an important national academic recognition. The program sends a list of all recognized students to subscribing colleges and universities that are particularly interested in academically outstanding seniors of Hispanic/Latino heritage.

The College Board is a not-for-profit membership association whose mission is to connect students to college success and opportunity. Founded in 1900, the College Board is composed of more than 5,700 schools, colleges, universities and other educational organizations. Each year, the College Board serves seven million students and their parents, 23,000 high schools, and 3,800 colleges through major programs and services in college readiness, college admission, guidance, assessment, financial aid, enrollment, and teaching and learning. Among its best-known programs are the SAT®, the PSAT/NMSQT® and the Advanced Placement Program® (AP®). The College Board is committed to the principles of excellence and equity, and that commitment is embodied in all of its programs, services, activities and concerns.
