FIELD, DIAMONDS AT ROBINSON PARK NOW OPEN TO PUBLIC

There’s good news for individuals and families in Pasadena that want to practice t-ball with young children, toss a football around and enjoy other sports-related leisure activities.

Previously available to organized sports programs only on a permitted basis, the multipurpose field and two baseball/softball diamonds at Robinson Park are now open for Pasadena community use only on a first-come, first-served, walk-on basis every Sunday through Friday from noon to 4:30 p.m.

Groups and organized sports teams will not have use of the field and diamonds during those days and hours.

The multipurpose field, with synthetic turf, is the first regulation-size football field in any Pasadena park and has a soccer overlay.  The field and the two recently renovated diamonds are among first-phase improvements at the park.  The synthetic turf is part of a water-saving initiative at the park.

To preserve the aesthetics and safety of the synthetic turf field as well as baseball diamonds, dugouts and batting cages, certain rules must be followed by all users:

* No smoking, fireworks or open flames
* No drinks except water
* No food of any kind, including gum, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, nuts and candy
* No chewing tobacco
* No spitting
* No dogs or pets of any kind
* No glass
* No sharp objects such as tent stakes, corner flags, spikes and poles that may penetrate and damage the turf
* No metal cleats or high heeled shoes
* All shoes and athletic footwear must be free of mud and debris
* Vehicles are prohibited on the field except those authorized by city staff
* No bicycles, skateboards, scooters or roller blades
* No markers or paint of any kind
* No applying sun block, lotions, oils or creams on the field
* No tents, ice chests, chairs or lawn furniture of any kind
* Spectators should remain in designated spectator areas

“We are extremely proud of the improvements at Robinson Park and want to preserve them for future generations,” said Horace Wormely, deputy director of the Pasadena Human Services and Recreation Department.  “We appreciate everybody’s cooperation and invite the community to enjoy this outdoor recreational space.”

The park, at 1081 N. Fair Oaks Ave., was named in honor of the entire Robinson family, including Jackie, Mack, their three other siblings and their mother Mallie.
